Judge Blocks Trump’s Order Targeting Perkins Coie Firm

A federal court has permanently shut down former President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at the law firm Perkins Coie. The order, aimed at suspending the firm’s security clearances and ending its federal contracts, was found unconstitutional by U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell. Judge Howell denounced the order as vengeful, infringing the First and Fifth Amendments by sanctioning the firm for defending clients who were in opposition to Trump, such as Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. The decision reinforces the judiciary function of ensuring legal autonomy against presidential overreach.
